Farm to School week is this coming week! Our farm to school menu this year features: locally raised ground beef from Zion’s Farm in Linville, pork from Bakers Pork in Mt. Jackson, freshly harvested potatoes from Valley Farming in Dayton, lettuce from Portwood Gardens in Dayton, apples from Showalter's Orchard in Timberville, and zucchini from Hanover, VA. The Crunch Heard 'Round the Commonwealth is an event held Thursday, October 10, 2024. To celebrate the event, participants across the Commonwealth will take a bite out of a Virginia grown apple, producing the celebratory “Crunch.” Together, we will make some noise for farm to school! All lunch meals on Thursday, October 10, include the choice of a locally grown apple from Showalter's Orchard in Timberville.

Attention Parents and Guardians-Great Opportunity! The First Lady of Virginia, Suzanne Youngkin, invites communities across the Commonwealth to join in a fireside chat with award-winning social psychologist, author, and researcher Dr. Jonathan Haidt, author of the bestseller The Anxious Generation. Following a live broadcast to participating schools across the Commonwealth, there will be organized community discussions about the risks of technology. Rockingham County Public Schools will make the broadcast available at Mountain View Elementary School. Please join us from 7:00 p.m.- 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 19 to take part in this important conversation. Following the live broadcast, Dr. Larry Shifflett, Rockingham County Public Schools Superintendent, will facilitate community conversations with parents, educators, students, and families to create best practices for the use of cell phones and social media both in and out of school.
